Nigel D. Greaves is a career public servant with two decades of professional experience split between municipal government and public charities. Nigel is now the Development Director for the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts (CFWM), garnering financial resources to strengthen the Foundation's strategic and donor-advised grantmaking.Most recently, Nigel was Project Director for the City of Springfield (MA) Office of Housing's Lead Hazard Control & Healthy Homes Program. The initiative rehabilitated residential housing units to improve environmental safety, energy efficiency, and blighted neighborhood conditions. Nigel was previously the Grants Administrator for the YMCA of Greater Hartford, securing resources and leveraging relationships in support of the Y's youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility programs. Upon moving to New England, Nigel completed the Proteus Fund's one-year Diversity Fellowship in philanthropy, serving as Policy Associate for the Nellie Mae Education Foundation during 2013-2014.An artist, activist, and educator, Nigel is a New York City native who spent over a decade teaching and learning, working and playing, living and creating in and around Washington, DC. He is an inspired filmmaker and performance poet, who, for over 15 years, produced videos and staged events promoting social justice, cultural exchange, and youth empowerment throughout the United States.For three years, Nigel was a counselor, program manager, and coach at a DC Public High School, focusing on increasing opportunities and improving outcomes for low-income youth of color. He has experience in corporate fundraising with United Way of the National Capital Area, and in conservation budget analysis with New York City’s Department of Parks & Recreation.Volunteerism is an important part of Nigel's work. He is a former board member for Resource Generation and for the Blackout Arts Collective, prior to serving on the Grantmaking Team with the Diverse City Fund. He stepped down from a two-year tenure on CFWM’s Distribution Committee in order to join its staff. He is currently an organizing member for the Dominica-America Relief & Development Association and has joined the Board of Directors for Beautiful Morning, Inc.Nigel is an Ithaca College graduate with an MBA from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. He earned certifications in nonprofit management from Georgetown University's Public Policy Institute and grant proposal analysis from Grand Valley State University's Johnson Center for Philanthropy.
