I was responsible for providing guidance and training on US Export Controls in particular the ITAR and implementing IT solutions to assist and enforce compliance within the Global Combat Systems businesses 17 sites in the UK,submitting "General Corespondence "(GC) letters to the US Dept. of State.

Heading a small team I was responsible for the timely despatch of customer goods to various internal UK and overseas locations worldwide.This involved the raising of the necessary shipping documentation with correct customs commodity codes, prices and the use of correct export licences where applicable to ensure compliance with current export regulations. I have also been responsible for giving export compliance / ITAR briefing to all new employees during the induction course and ensuring ITAR compliance for the site. Other areas of responsibilities included the control of suppliers by raising PO’s and validation of invoices, ensuring that agents were in place to clear customs. Progress chasing and tracking of shipments. Hosting of audits both internal and external e.g. DTI and Customs auditsWorking at both operational and strategic level I was involved in the setting up of in theatre logistics requirements.

Working within the busy shipping department, I was responsible for the Asia and Pacific Rim countries.This involved checking and invoicing of orders prior to raising Shipper’s letter of instruction to our nominated forwarders. Where required we would raise C88 customs forms and on all shipments provide correct commodity codes.I was also the initial point of contact for the customer when they had any questions or problems which required resolving prior or after a shipment had been made to ensure their delivery site installation deadlines were met. A certain amount of my work also involved Letter of Credit and Certificates of Origin.

Working within a small sales company, my main role was to liase with our suppliers in the Far East, ensuring that deadlines were met with regard to despatch of our product throughout Europe and confirming flight bookings and clearance with customs through our freight forwarder. I was also responsible for the highest level of customer satisfaction at all times which involved regular contact with our customers discussing any issues or problems they may have had.I also had responsibility for a small store of samples.

Originally employed as a Movements Controller, which among other things involved overseeing the safe loading/unloading of a variety of cargo and wide-bodied aircraft. I became conversant with the handling procedures and all associated administration from raising the initial booking through to departure processing.I then moved into the Imports/ Exports departments where I was involved on a daily basis calling forward cargo for despatch and planning aircraft loads. I also worked closely with customs to obtain necessary clearances for both inbound and outbound cargo.
