Drawing on over 30 years’ experience as a chartered architect and the series of books on project and practice management I have written for the RIBA, I have started delivering business and project augmentation services to medium and large sized practices through Ostime Consulting. My experience includes 7 years as director of a top ten practice, 3 as director of a startup modular housing company, and for the last 9 years leading Project Delivery at Hawkins\Brown, where I continue to work three days/week, alongside my new consultancy work. I have wide experience in developing and managing systems to improve productivity and quality management, including tools, standard forms, and procedures for maintaining error-free, efficient project management. My consultancy offer also includes risk management and claims management, negotiation and contract advice - getting good deals – as well as price discrimination to increase fee income and squeeze more work out of commissions. I can provide a client feedback service tailored to individual practice’s needs, based on research I led for the RIBA into ‘what clients want’. I can also provide advice on the requirements of the Building Safety Act, having co-developed the RIBA’s online course that supports their Principal Designer registration process and the forthcoming core CPD on ‘Creating Safe and Healthy Environments’. I have wide experience in the design and delivery of large, complex projects in a range of sectors and have a keen interest in Design for Manufacture and Assembly having led several key R&D initiatives to improve productivity and quality in affordable housing development. I led development of the 2nd edition of the DfMA Overlay to the RIBA Plan of Work. I am a member of BSI Technical Committee CB/301 Offsite and Modern Methods of Construction; the Steering Group for PAS 8700 ‘Modern methods of construction for newbuild residential properties’. I was a member of the Steering Group on Produced Capital for the Value Toolkit and a consultee on the RIBA Smart Buildings Overlay and the RIAI DfMA Overlay. I have recently joined the advisory board for UK Construction Week, which is dedicated to addressing the most critical challenges facing the construction sector today. I am currently Renter Warden of the Architects’ Livery Company.
