Programme/project management:I established team, cross-agency collaboration and stakeholder engagement practices for the development of the New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy and the National Policy Statement for Indigenous Biodiversity (two teams). Policy development:I led the development of advice on the identification and management of Significant Natural Areas (SNAs) on Crown land. I was also DOC's Biosecurity policy lead, developing advice on 1080, Kauri Dieback (National Pest Management Plan and Management Agency), and the Biosecurity Act review.Engagement & Comms:I designed the engagement programme for public consultation on the development of the National Biodiversity Strategy - generating a national conversation on ecosystem restoration and resetting our relationship with nature.I also worked with the Te Ao Māori Reference Group and departmental Māori cultural advisors to bring a strong Māori perspective and contribution to the strategy.

New Zealand’s biosecurity strategy, Biosecurity 2025, is a large-scale, multi-stakeholder initiative. I led the development of a the statement of biosecurity research, science and technology priorities with a working group of scientists. I used agile and collaborative methods to develop the draft within a tight timeframe with minimal resources and very busy people. Agile programme and project management: I introduced agile and collaborative methods to develop and deliver the Labour Market Strategy. My guiding insights are to build people and the quality of their relationships and conversations, putting people at the centre, and co-designing processes and structure to support them.Capability development: I supported teams to overcome friction, fragmentation and silos; co-designed and delivered branch workshops and and branch away day; supported the development of policy project management practice across MBIE and within the Labour and Immigration Policy branch; and designed and led a cross-MBIE scenario development exercise on the future of work.

Agile Policy: I led and mentored ‘hot’ policy projects from climate change to cat management, smoke-free public places and freedom camping. I engaged early, built trust, and guided internal and external stakeholders through policy development processes to carefully navigate and manage risks, establish pre-conditions for success and find win-win-win solutions.City Resilience: I led the successful bid for Wellington to join the Rockefeller 100 Resilient Cities network and establish a Chief Resilience Officer within WCC. City Resilience is one of the Council’s three priorities under the Wellington 2040 Strategy and the portfolio is sponsored by the Mayor. My work engaged key internal and external stakeholders to connect the resources, tools and partners for the Council to deliver on a city-wide vision for a resilient Wellington. Prime Minister Bill English and Mayor Justin Lester launched Wellington’s Resilience Strategy in March 2017.Action on Climate Change: I initiated, and co-developed the Smart Energy Challenge, coordinating a core team including Council staff, social entrepreneurs (Enspiral, PledgeMe, Generation Zero), and support partners Deloitte, Kiwibank, Flick Electric, Microsoft, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority and National Energy Research Institute. I then connected with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s Climate-KIC (Knowledge Innovation Community) and Victoria University's innovation bootcamp to deliver the 2015 Climathon programme in Wellington. Introducing adaptive management: I developed a coastal resilience framework for Wellington and the led WCC’s involvement in developing adaptive management tools for coastal planning in Wellington and beyond. Project partners included Deltares, the New Zealand Climate Change Research Institute, Greater Wellington Regional Council, Tasman Council and the Ministry for the Environment.
