My work engaged key internal and external stakeholders to connect the resources, tools and partners for the Council to deliver on a city-wide vision for a resilient Wellington. Prime Minister Bill English and Mayor Justin Lester launched Wellington’s Resilience Strategy in March 2017.Action on Climate Change: I initiated, and co-developed the Smart Energy Challenge, coordinating a core team including Council staff, social entrepreneurs (Enspiral, PledgeMe, Generation Zero), and support partners Deloitte, Kiwibank, Flick Electric, Microsoft, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority and National Energy Research Institute. I then connected with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s Climate-KIC (Knowledge Innovation Community) and Victoria University's innovation bootcamp to deliver the 2015 Climathon programme in Wellington. Introducing adaptive management: I developed a coastal resilience framework for Wellington and the led WCC’s involvement in developing adaptive management tools for coastal planning in Wellington and beyond. Project partners included Deltares, the New Zealand Climate Change Research Institute, Greater Wellington Regional Council, Tasman Council and the Ministry for the Environment.
