I work on improving the robustness and user experience of large-scale online experiments. I also research cross-cultural online collaboration, building a community around LabintheWild (a volunteer-based online experiment platform). In the classroom, I lead sections as a teaching assistant for the project-based computer science course in Human-Computer Interaction.

My research is in the area of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Collaborative Systems and is entitled: "Redesigning Question & Answer Sites to Promote Culturally Diverse Adoption: What are participants' needs to exchange in StackExchange?"Summary:Question and Answer (Q&A) sites have the goal of solving participant's problems by providing tools for them to collaboratively create answers to posed questions and build a repository of searchable knowledge. More than a repository for information though, these environments are communities of people that interact around the created knowledge. However, because collaborators are spread around the world they tend not to share the same socioeconomic context nor the cultural background. Such differences can either create barriers or opportunities for collaboration, and a lack of observation of these differences might result in less diverse and productive communities. In this research we ask if any national community participates less in two StackExchange sites, and if so, why does this happen and how can we change this reality.

Worked as a researcher in the wide area of Collaborative Systems and as a collaborator at the Open Science OSS Crowdsourcing platform now called PyBossa - which can be found in GitHub.

LabintheWild is an online experiment platform for conducting behavioral research studies with self-selected, uncompensated web samples. The platform was launched in 2012 with the goal of reaching larger and more diverse participant samples than what was possible with either conventional lab studies or through online labor markets such as Amazon Mechanical Turk.Visit: labinthewild.org

Co-advised by Professor Katharina Reinecke, I'm searching to understand some of the relations between technology design; collaborative sites'​ appropriation; and its participants' cultural background. This research project will be part of my PhD Thesis, that I hope to present in Brazil in 2017.
