I feel very fortunate to be able to do what I love best—I am a culture and sports photographer and I travel the world shooting talented and inspiring athletes and artists. My roots are in the Hip Hop scene, that’s why I specialized in B-Boy/B-Girl and street art photography. After founding We B*Girlz, an organization for women in Hip Hop, organizing numerous events for the scene and working on two books about Hip Hop as editor/writer with New York’s legendary Hip Hop photographer Martha Cooper, I started taking pictures in 2009. In 2009, Martha Cooper had upgraded from the Nikon D70 to the D700 and had given me her D70 with the words, “I think you could be a good photographer!” Been shooting with Nikon ever since: #IamNikaI started shooting Red Bull BC One in 2010, for which I had been working as a writer, web editor and community manager since 2005. Since 2014 I’ve been working as a full time photographerI travel the world shooting mostly dance, sports, fashion, and street art. I am the in-house photographer of streetart museum Urban Nation in Berlin and 1 of 3 female photographers on www.redbullphotography.comI love the adrenaline rush before a dance or sports competition, when you know you need to focus every second so you don’t miss the crucial picture—the one moment that determines the winner.
