Watching America is a web initiative reflecting global opin­ion about the U.S. through providing translated news and views published in other countries.• Journalistic translation: researching and translating opinion articles from Russian into English under the senior editors’ supervision, with 90+ articles published (c. 75,000 words), 30%+ of which were front-page features.• Team-player: liaising with other 7 Russian translators and the senior editor for Eastern Europe on planning and articles to be translated.• Time management: ensuring the submission of all translations during the bi-weekly window designated by the editors.• MS Office: extensively employing a range of Office applications, such as Word and Excel, for editing and keeping track of rendered articles and feedback. The project, commissioned by Rare Dementia Support and led by the UCL Centre for Translation Studies, involved translating medical information leaflets and support materials from English into several European languages, to be published on the Rare Dementia Support website. • Medical translation: translated 3 medical information leaflets on rare dementia types totalling 4,000 words (English into Russian).• Attention to detail: edited and reviewed 4,000 words of other translators' work, verified the translations’ compliance with the client-set standards. • Terminology management: conducted comprehensive background/terminology research of the source texts and prepared a shared specialist EN>RU glossary containing 47 terms.• Organisation: balanced the responsibilities of the 3-month long extracurricular project with academic studies and the December-January coursework period. • Teamwork: formed part of a 3-strong Russian translators’ team, supervised by a project manager, collaborating and resolving translation and terminology issues, allowing to finalise the project.
