Data scientist at Tink working with enrichment of transaction data, i.e. transaction categorization and merchant metadata enrichment. These models/products are being used in the banking apps of some of the biggest banks in Europe, with > 7M MAU.Most notably, I was the tech lead for the Merchant Information product (see https://tink.com/blog/news/meet-merchant-information/), which per transaction supplies users with a merchant name, logo, location and contact information. We started with 0 lines of code and, within a short amount of time, were able to build a market leading product. This project included a mix between pragmatic product development combined with the usage of some of the state-of-the-art models within NLP (NER, Entity Linking, Vector Databases). It also included integrations with third-party data sources (VISA Global Merchant Repository, Wikidata, Dun & Bradstreet etc), the creation of a structured data labeling pipeline, as well as close collaboration with other teams/functions.

Developed a transformer model for named entity recognition on transaction descriptions. The model was able to detect organizations, locations, persons, payment providers (e.g Swish, Klarna, or Paypal) and products/applications in transaction descriptions with a F1-score of 0.85 on an entity level using only 2200 transactions for training.Using features from my named entity recognition model I was able to create a new transaction categorization model that outperformed the then-current model at Tink.This thesis was, to the best of my knowledge, the first published report on named entity recognition for transaction descriptions.Link to the report: https://lup.lub.lu.se/student-papers/search/publication/9077863Link to the video of the presentation: https://youtu.be/YQGhm_RZbcs
