I am a hands-on person who is looking to perform engineering work for a medical device company. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2016 from UC Irvine, and more recently, my Certificate in Medical Device Engineering from UCLA Extension in 2023. I have over 2 years of product development experience for KeenSight, a startup company. During my time there, I designed experiments to validate the concept for an ophthalmic alignment medical device used in cataract surgery. modeled multiple device prototype iterations using SolidWorks, drafted engineering drawings, and 3D printed fixtures to test the device functionality. One of my strengths is being detail oriented and methodical. During my summer internship at Alcon in 2017, I was working on two projects: developing a blood occlusion system for an ophthalmic laser probe and improving the illumination of a laser probe used in vitreoretinal surgery. For the blood occlusion system, I designed experiments to test different optical setups and maximize output signal reading using an oscilloscope, documenting all results and changes. I selected an adhesive by testing its shear by using Instron to perform compression tests. For more information: OCCLUSION SENSING IN OPHTHALMIC LASER PROBESIn 2018, I decided to explore other career options, and decided to pursue medicine. I completed the necessary course prerequisites, shadowed physicians, and participated in the COPE Health Scholars, both as a volunteer and as a leader. I have been able to interact with a diverse group of people, from physicians to patients. During my first year of medical school, I felt unfulfilled, and realized that I greatly preferred creating medical devices compared to diagnosing and treat diseases. After I left medical school, I took a little time to recharge and refocus, and now I am more determined than ever to create engineering solutions for the medical device industry. I went to UCLA Extension and got my Certificate in Medical Device Engineering to update my knowledge and skills. If you are looking to hire a highly-motivated engineer to help design and develop medical devices, please contact me.Email: nikkikoe@gmail.com
