My name is Nikki C. Patterson, and I am an author, certified teacher, educational consultant, diversity trainer, and public speaker with IPrevail K-12 Educational Consulting LLC.As an educator I was passionate about equipping and empowering students from low-income communities with the knowledge and skills needed to rise above societal norms and succeed beyond the school walls. However, after seeing a growing need to disrupt the school to prison pipeline system, increase the high school graduation rate, and close the achievement gap for Black students attending the lowest performing public schools, I left the classroom to become an educational consultant.As an Educational Consultant, I educate, equip, and empower leaders, educators, and parents with the tools students, attending low performing public schools, need in order to identify gaps in the child's learning, close the gaps identified in reading and writing, and help the child get to grade level, so that they can become college and career ready. With more than 10 years of experience working in low-performing public schools, I have worked with diverse learners with many needs. Working to help learners overcome academic and life challenges taught me how to analyze and utilize researched-based strategies, gave me the tools needed to make data-driven decisions that took into account the demographics and needs of the students, as well as allowed me to teach my students in a culturally responsive manner. Having grown up in poverty, living in high crime areas, and attending low-performing schools but still being able to graduate high school and college to live the life of my dreams; proved to me that where a child begins in life does not determine the level of success they can achieve.Now, by using the transformative nine-step DIVERSITY Process, I teach school and district leaders, educators, and parents how to help their children succeed inside and outside of the classroom so they too can go on to live the life of their dreams.The process is discussed extensively in my book, How to Win as a Principal.
