Carries out Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) tests and collects data on effluent waters using EPA approved methods and species cultured in-house (Pimpehales promelas and Daphnid species). Oversees the breeding, welfare and feeding (including hatching brine shrimp for grow-out juveniles and >24hr old fry) of vertebrate species including monitoring and logging of pH, ammonia and nitrite/nitrate levels, conductivity, hardness, alkalinity and temperature (daily max, min, current) on 24 breeding tanks maintained by 3 separate recirculating bio-filtration systems, embryo grow-out (maintained in smaller tanks to increase survival rate), and breeder-exchange stock tanks. Supervises collection and hatching of eggs produced to use in chronic and acute toxicity tests on effluent water following in-house SOPs and EPA methods. In addition, oversees the execution of e.coli screenings in effluent water for WET and analytical clients, oversees total suspended solids and total dissolved solids extraction procedures, and maintains culture of microalgae for invertebrate food, as well as helping to maintain a clean and efficient culture space and laboratory.
