I am a biologist and environmental researcher pursuing my PhD at the intersection of urban marine ecology, sustainability, and design. Originally from the Pacific Northwest (USA), my outdoor adventures sparked my fascination with the natural sciences. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Davidson College and while studying in Copenhagen, I discovered Biological Design–an emerging field that combines my aptitude for science with my creative thinking skills. My desire to improve accessibility to science and develop innovative solutions to the climate crisis led me to the Royal College of Art (RCA). As the Biology-Technical Instructor, I founded the RCA's first biology research space and taught research protocols to post-graduate design students. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD with the London Natural Environment Research Council at King's College London, the Institute of Zoology, and the University of Miami. My research investigates the future of urban shoreline ecosystems living on human-made coastal structures (including U of Miami's SEAHIVE product), to develop innovative ways to include biodiversity in our coastal cities.
