Current postgraduate researcher and PhD student at University of Nottingham BBSRC Doctoral Training Programme. I have just graduated from Nottingham Trent University in BSc (Hons) Horticulture with 1st class honours, researching bacterial biostimulants for my dissertation project. I have undertaken placements and collaborated with a variety of horticultural companies to broaden my knowledge and experience within the industry.I chose to study horticulture in order to solidify my future in horticulture aiming to develop my skills, broaden my knowledge and challenge myself within this field. What I discovered was a host of new challenges and passions, and developed an even bigger curiosity of our world.My accomplishments so far have been my internships at the National Tropical Botanical Gardens in Hawaii, Chatsworth House gardens and Legume Technology. These valuable experiences also provided me with the confidence and understanding that with enough hard work, most things are attainable which ignited my work ethic for the next few years at university.Horticultural science is something I enjoy especially scientific inquiry. Specifically, how manipulating conditions and using biostimulants, such as fungi, may improve growth and yield of crops. Agronomy is another topic I enjoy learning about in my spare time.I will be starting on the BBSRC Doctoral Training Programme in September 2020. My future goals are to build upon my research skills, and find a career that continues to challenge me intellectually, allowing me to make a difference in some way to the world. I expect this will be in Research and Development, or the scientific aspect of conservation, but I am looking forward to meeting challenges and opportunities as they arise.Prior to a career in horticulture, I have been involved in the music industry, playing as a professional guitarist in a rock band.
