About Nicola Willemsen

Its always a pleasure to see the characters come to life, feel and think. I have a good eye for detail and aesthetics, and confident in my ability to animate, with Maya as my choice of software package.I find it endlessly interesting tackling complex mechanical shots with blending and layering animation, finding the limits of the character rigs and creating temporary rigs to work around them.I have experience in every stage of the 3D production process and I utilise this to effectively communicate with each department in a clear and concise manner, and I would be happy to lead a small team of animators and juniors.Although it may be premature in actively taking a directorial role, I find film techniques and theory more than fascinating and enjoy listening to podcasts and videos on the topic in my free time, with 'the Animators breakfast podcast' and 'StudioBinder' being my current favourites. I also am competent in the use of Mudbox, Photoshop and AfterEffects, with past experience in 3dsMax, AutoCad, Inventor and Revit from my Architectural background.I'm always interested in integrating new software into my 3D production pipeline and discovering new techniques to improve my process.I have a fair understanding of coding in C# and have made a few scripts in Maya using MEL. In general try to keep my coding solutions simple and elegant to avoid confusion and easy to adjust on the fly.I would love to continue making fun and memorable animation and improving my character animation skills in the future!As I'm wrapping up my current employment at Pixel Zoo, if you are looking for Mid/Senior animator, would like some advice, or would just like to strike up a friendly conversation, feel free to contact me!
