Our commercialization efforts continue in the Business Finland funded Fast Electrochemical Point-Of-care Diagnostics for opioids and other pain medicine (FEPOD) project. Currently our main focus is clinical validation of our point-of-care assays and further development of our production process for mass scale fabrication of our carbon nanomaterial-based test strips.

Development of novel integrated carbon nanostructures and carbon-based sensors for electrochemical detection of active pharmaceutical ingredients and neurotransmitters. By combining electrochemical measurements with extensive physical and chemical characterization we gain understanding of the electrochemical behavior of target analytes, allowing us to push the envelope of sensitivity and selectivity in direct electrochemical detection. During this work, I focused on electrochemical detection of analgesics directly from blood samples. The work was carried out in a multidisciplinary consortium comprising leading expertise in carbon nanomaterial synthesis, electronics, electrochemistry, IVD diagnostics, anesthesiology and clinical pharmacology.

Physical vapor deposition of metal and carbon thin films and characterization of samples (SEM, TEM, Raman spectroscopy, FT-IR). Electrochemical characterization of electrode materials and evaluation of biosensor performance (Cyclic voltammetry, Chronoamperometry, differential pulse voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy).

Developing processes for roll-to-roll mass production of CNT-based electrochemical test strips for point-of-care diagnostics. The work also includes development of quality control protocols, validation of the produced sensors and testing with real patient samples.

My responsibilites included researching the recycling and reuse of steel foundry waste, comprising a literature survey, characterization of waste at Metso foundries and a final report. My work also included the collecting, processing and reporting of Health, Safety and Environmental data.
