The financial sector has been hit by a regulatory tsunami since the global financial crisis. Some of the key regulatory initiatives that I have worked with have been the implementation of CRR(2), CRD(V), BRRD(2), MFI(3), IFRS 9 and AnaCredit. Even more regulatory initiatives are on its way from the authorities as gaps identified in regulatory oversight and management are being plugged through enhanced frameworks and guidelines. Analysis and implementation of some of the regulatory requirements are resource-intensive and can be a very demanding task. I believe regulatory solutions should be implemented from a wider perspective, ensuring that the regulatory requirements can be cross-section. I aim to implement the optimum frameworks to ensure these requirements are appropriately managed within agreed cost- and risk tolerance. My focus is to ensure the financial institution conforms to applicable laws and regulations and thereby is resilient against legal enforcement and the rising impact of fines, penalties and business disruption.
