Navigational Duties:Perform bridge watchkeeping during assigned shifts, ensuring the safe navigation of the vessel.Monitor weather conditions, tides, and potential navigational hazards, reporting any concerns to the Chief Officer.Assist in the preparation of voyage planning, including reviewing charts, plotting courses, and verifying navigational aids.Maintain the vessel’s navigational equipment in accordance with company and international standards.Assist the Captain and Chief Officer in overseeing bridge operations during port arrivals and departures.Safety and Security:Oversee the inspection and maintenance of safety equipment, including lifeboats, life rafts, fire extinguishers, and firefighting systems.Ensure that all life-saving appliances are operational and meet regulatory requirements.Conduct regular safety inspections and participate in safety drills, including fire and abandon ship drills, ensuring crew and passenger readiness.Assist with implementing the vessel’s Safety Management System (SMS) and ensuring compliance with ISM, SOLAS, and MARPOL regulations.Act as a key team member during emergency situations, executing emergency protocols as needed.Crew Support and Development:Assist the Chief Officer in supervising deck crew, providing training on navigation, safety, and emergency procedures.Participate in crew briefings, sharing updates on navigational routes, weather forecasts, and safety concerns.Ensure that the deck crew adheres to safety protocols and work efficiently during daily operations.Administrative Duties:Maintain accurate logs of all navigational data, weather conditions, and safety drills.Assist in the maintenance of deck records, safety equipment inventories, and documentation related to inspections and audits.Support the Chief Officer with administrative duties, including updating navigational charts and documentation.
