Safety StewardSecuritas Jun 2012 - Oct 2014As a safety steward, I was responsible the safety of many spectators who were situated in the section of which I was working on. This was a very tough, but rewarding position. I was responsible for dealing with any customer queries, and during the time of the Olympics, there was many different questions that were being asked to me. So being taught on how to deal with these questions was essential, and I felt it was very rewarding answering a question to a spectator who wanted to know a piece of information. Furthermore, before and after every event, a sweep of all the seats the venue was required, to check for any broken seats, or any lost property which would then have to be reported to any senior members. Working on the turnstiles of venues was crucial, as we as the stewards are the first contact of all the spectators. This role included checking tickets and showing them which direction to go in order to get to their designated seats. Furthermore, bag checks in certain venues was required, this meant checking in a random order, whereby spectators would be picked to open their bags so a thorough check of their possessions could be carried out. Any prohibited items from the venue would be immediately confiscated. -

If the pair of shoes they were looking for was not currently in stock, it was crucial that they were offered alternatives as well as directing them to the company website where they could make the purchase as more sizes and styles were available.At the end of a working day, the shop floor needed to be tidied and made ready for trading for the following day, this procedure included ensuring all display stands were fully stocked with a right shoe, and all laces were tucked into the shoe itself which prevented displays looking messy.Also, working on the footwear department, I was required to push sales of special offer socks at the time, this was a staff incentive and more socks sold meant higher bonuses. Finally, during busy times in the store which were mainly weekends, I was responsible for leaving the footwear department to work on the tills, where customers who were waiting for over 4 minutes could be served as quickly as possible. This could only be carried out, if there were enough members remaining on the footwear department.
