Niles is a member of the Mandiant IR Function Technical Directors, the technical leadership team responsible for enabling the Consulting organization through guidance of engineering projects, process improvements, infrastructure planning, product testing/documentation, methodology analysis, and tool development.The IR Function reviews new products to determine how they might be used by Professional Services, and what features are needed to address coverage gaps in necessary service offerings.They act as the stakeholder for all of Consulting and provide feedback to Mandiant engineering teams on various internally built Enterprise Incident Response products. The guidance the team provides drives the future development of products related to intelligence, analysis, assessment, and remediation.As expert Incident Responders, the Technical Director team frequently supports IRs and Compromise Assessments across the regions Mandiant covers, as well as, providing surge support on high profile cases.

In 2018, Niles returned to the overall Consulting practice as a member of the IR Function. Since then, he has been guiding the development of Mandiant's Enterprise Incident Response products and providing subject-matter expertise for FireEye's Linux and macOS endpoint agents.Niles also built and maintained python libraries and scripts used throughout the Consulting and Managed Defense practices. These tools enabled users to create advanced workflows and analysis methods.

When Niles first joined Mandiant, he leveraged his past Digital Forensics experience to perform forensic analysis of compromised endpoints. He detailed evidence of data theft, identified system activity by threat actors, and uncovered malware on the systems. In addition to building and delivering Mandiant's Linux courses; Niles specialized in macOS and Linux/Unix investigations. Some of his notable projects during this period were: Mandiant's first macOS Live Response script and Mandiant training on live imaging a FileVault container.In 2010, Niles and 5 other Consultants were selected by the COO to build a new team, Special Projects. This team was responsible for many of the cutting edge capabilities and services used throughout Mandiant. During his time in Special Projects, Niles continued to provide Linux/macOS expertise to Mandiant Professional Services.

As a Computer Forensics Engineer, Niles performed lead generation in support of US Government clients. He examined various types of digital media for general user activity, including: steganography, encryption, counterfeit identity documents, and covert communications. Niles' specialty was damaged media and file recovery.Niles also built, deployed, and maintained Red Team network infrastructure across the globe.
