Supporting an XR studio start-up and an entertainment facility as well as a consultancy for business usage for example. I continually do side projects like 360° filming or being a lecturer to form my perspective as a professional XR (media) manager.Several ups and downs of the branch and several best (and worst) practises later (2024) I believe that the time is right for XR in business and education. Those are some of my key findings:The recent hardware / software is not a game changer at the digital workplace generally. But there are exceptions like usage in (industrial) design roles for example.The immersive character of XR activates natural cognition and enabled more focused training and learning options. Recently getting into use at big players in the industrial sector. Software and hardware are getting better and more field specific.The virtual and now also mobile character of XR makes it possible to carry a self-designed world with its experiences with you. Events and sales pitches get a modern, realistic touch while a digital twin can be created step by step.Running virtual worlds in a cloud needs to be planned carefully. There are expenditures or showstoppers like hosting software, GDPR and single sign-on. Often it makes sense to have a team or partner for that. Using a platform or creating offline apps are ways to get started.Augmented work instructions and remote work / support are getting more and more traction.
