Advised Edico Genome on Informatics strategy and algorithms for the DRAGEN (Dynamic Read Analysis for GENomics) FPGA Solution that provides accurate, ultra-rapid secondary genomic analysis of sequencing data. Acquired by Illumina in 2018.

Led a software engineering team responsible for maintaining building software pipelines for data analysis of DNA sequencing sequencing and other genomics-based technologies. Responsible for team management, architecture of new features and components, and engineering leadership. The software we develop is used to power the vast majority genomic sequencing performed at the Broad Institute. Primarily focused on building the next-generation of analysis pipelines, data-stores, API, and software to meet the challenges of the on-going order-of-magnitude increases in data production to power meaningful scientific inquiry. The software developed included systems deployed on Terra (e.g. Cromwell, Rawls, Agora). Strong track record of retaining and hiring expert talent through organizational growth and transformation, retaining all team members a through re-organization and doubling the team size, while leading hiring for entire platform. Drove adoption of Agile (Scrum) development process to transform team structure and delivery of production software.

Lead the software engineering team responsible for software pipelines for data analysis of DNA sequencing sequencing and other genomics-based technologies. Responsible for team management, direction of new features and components, and integration across genomics method development at the Broad, with the latter including but not limited to the GSA, CRSP Cancer Pipeline, GATK, BWA, and Picard individuals and groups. Primary innovation focused on computation scalability and reduction of storage requirements given high-throughput whole genome sequencing technology (ex. Illumina X Ten), including new models of computation (ex. hybrid cloud), specialized software development and collaborations, and hardware acceleration and optimization, combining industry and academia.

Lead genomics technology portfolio for use in large-scale genomic clinical tests. Managed the bioinformatics group to deliver rigorous data analysis and supported software tools. Managed bioinformatics within the genomics pipeline from data acquisition through interpretation and reporting. Provided expert domain knowledge and leadership within bioinformatics, next-generation sequencing, and genomics to bring the promise of personalized medicine to Pediatric clinical diagnostics.

Led a group of software developers, bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, statistical geneticists and IT engineers to develop enterprise solutions for the application of genomic infrastructure and scientific projects. Provided technical sales support, project planning, budgeting, and oversaw execution of an integrated large-scale genomics discovery project. Principal lead of the NGS mapping team to develop new algorithms and statistical methods to leverage DNA sequencing technologies, including primary analysis through genomic interpretation for next-generation sequencing on the Torrent sequencing platform. Contributed algorithms and software from invention through production. Participated in bioinformatics technical diligence for emerging technologies and software solutions.

Algorithms and analysis methods for next-generation DNA and single-molecule sequencing technology, code-named "StarLight". Lead and performed Bioinformatics analysis for the Ion Torrent technical diligence, leading to acquisition of Ion Torrent by Life Technologies

As a member of Dr. Stan Nelson's Lab at UCLA, developed novel computational methods to utilize genomic technologies (next-generation sequencing) to give insight into human disease biology. This included developing algorithms and software for quality control, mapping, re-assembly, variant detection (SNVs and SVs), and pipelining. Co-main contributor of a small team (eight) to sequence the full genome of human cancer (U87 cell line).

Worked on developing novel statistical methods for improving power of pooling-based genome-wide association studies under Dr. David W. Craig.
