What became extraordinary about Nima McElhinney has shifted the mindset of all who are graced by her presence. Since immigrating to Canada as a young mother in 1989, Nima’s path to multi-business ownership has been driven by caring and compassion and guided by a formidable spirit of determination and perseverance.Her first two achievements in Canada were a Grade 12 Diploma and a driver’s license, which might seem trivial, but were the tools for her to become this icon in our lives. Nima worked in the sales and service industry, took night classes and, within a few years, was voted student of the year of her Toronto School of Business class in Hamilton, Ontario.Nima nurtured her daughters’ competitive swimming and ballet talents while devoting herself to the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation supporting her community in Nepal. She took the bull by the horns in 2010 and bought a domiciliary hostel caring for 50 mentally ill people and made the world stand up and see how love and compassion could shift lives.Nima consistently hosted Nepalese dinners, auctions, and events for charity. Nima has been quietly supporting underprivileged children, schools , and those in need without ever whispering, She is a quiet changemaker.Nima leveraged her initial purchase and is now the Owner-Operator of two retirements homes, Barrie Manor Enhanced Care Community and Emerald Retirement Residence, and other businesses employing more than 100 people.Nima has been nominated as a Woman of Inspiration (Universal Women’s Network), and several other philanthropic awards. In 2020, Nima was voted Woman of the Year by a Nepalese community organization as a role model for immigrant women and for giving back to Nepal.Nima is from the Sherpa ethnic group, raised in a small, remote village in the Himalayas, with her 8 siblings. She attributes her compassion and philosophy of life to caring for her grandparents as a child and her respect for nature.She wishes for equality and peace in the world and absolutely believes with the right attitude, dreams can come true.
