She now entertains on solo piano at numerous assisted living communities.A grad of Music & Art HS in NYC en route to a B.A. in Music, Magna Cum Laude from The City College in 1978, Nina had the opportunity to study with the famed late John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet. Owner/OperatorKey Element Photography Aug 2018 - PresentRedondo Beach, CaCurrently (just to clarify), this is still just a hobby. Since Dec., 2016 I've been snapping scores of photos of all types (over 1000 so far) on my smart phone, of atmosphere and background, featuring restaurants and fast food chain locales, civic and community centers, nightclubs (including Casey's Tavern, where I perform every Sunday evening), department and smaller stores, convenience marts, banks, post offices, auto repair shops, gas stations, public art such as the Freedom Sculpture in… Show more Currently (just to clarify), this is still just a hobby. Since Dec., 2016 I've been snapping scores of photos of all types (over 1000 so far) on my smart phone, of atmosphere and background, featuring restaurants and fast food chain locales, civic and community centers, nightclubs (including Casey's Tavern, where I perform every Sunday evening), department and smaller stores, convenience marts, banks, post offices, auto repair shops, gas stations, public art such as the Freedom Sculpture in Century City, and the West LA Regional Branch Library. Some people have told me I have a good eye for the lens. I'd love to get work snapping atmosphere pics such as of home interiors for realtors, with my "key element." Meanwhile, my Google Maps photos have over 22,500,000 views to date! Why would I take such photos?...I discovered I could upload them to Google Maps, and I became a Local Guide in 2017, uploading tons of photos, writing many reviews, and answering 100's of questions Google poses to me about all the places I visit and/or that I frequent regular (I allow myself to be tracked). About 10 are now Feature photos. It's very enjoyable and I'd like to try and make this more than a hobby if possible, so I got a fictitious business name and published it for 4 weeks in a newspaper. See "Google Local Guide" for more information on what I do. I'm a Level 8, currently about 1/8 of the way toward becoming a Level 9.I know that I I should have more equipment in order to establish some more credibility, so I'm thinking of a 360 degree camera - a Ricoh S model. This would open up a new world of photography and be enjoyable, if not enable me to approach realtors, startup restaurateurs, etc. As of Nov., 2022, I haven't bought equipment, as other priorities such as tending to my now-deceased mother's needs came first. (She was in long-term skilled nursing care from 2017-Feb. 2021 when she passed away at nearly 95, of complications from Alzheimer's and other ailments.) Show less

My duties were similar to my job as As-Needed Messenger Clerk, but I was based at the West LA Regional Branch Library. Along with collecting, scanning, sorting, and routing library materials, shelving, neatening shelves and study areas, and assisting patrons, I also logged in, stamped and dated newspapers; put out 2 flags; and updated spine labels on non-fiction books. I got some Circulation ("Circ") desk training, so I provided basic back-up coverage such as checking out materials. Several times, I helped set up and monitor the conference room for movies and live performances. Although my first supervisor, who helped me navigate and complete the various new hire documents for Human Resources, transferred to another branch, all went well subsequently, and my most current supervisor was a Library Assistant who transferred to the branch from the Central Library. I've taken many required intranet tutorials as part of mandatory training. A City Library System holiday party was held most years excluding COVID years, and 2015's was at the Central Library at 630 W. Fifth St. in downtown L.A. This unique library, with its many floors accessible not only via elevator, but also via escalators that go both above and below street level, is worth visiting by everyone. In 2018, a huge City of L.A. Library Department event was held at the L.A. Convention Center called "We're All In," which is where I had presented my TED talk as described in my profile.Securing this position was very fortunate. It's very nice to be retired, though. Often, I show my "care" for the books by providing minor repairs. My work requires knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification. I've also learned about the many categories such as biographies; language study; mysteries; reference; science fiction; short stories; Westerns; graphic novels ("comics"); children's fiction, non-fiction, and picture books; young adult fiction; etc. - even large type books! And, I re-shelve misfiled materials. I'm busy all the time, so the shifts go by quickly! After being hired, I had semi-steady assignments, at 30-39 hours per 2 weeks, in many branches especially West LA and Pacific Palisades (although I started out at Venice). Other branches at which I worked included Brentwood, Mar Vista, Palms-Rancho, Westchester-Loyola Village, and Westwood. This job provided a great way to keep English and math skills sharp and the body active. As of September, 2013 I became based at the West LA regional branch, on Santa Monica Blvd. The staff here was nice to work with, and it was nice to enjoy what you do.Contributing to the cause of public libraries was a rewarding aspect of this job. Libraries are a prime example of how folks less fortunate can have a place to go in the daytime and use the free computers to find some enjoyment on the internet - reading, researching, or just being entertained. As long as they're quiet and well-behaved, they can stay as long as the library is open. But the library staff is trained to do some "diffusing" as necessary, and each often, there were incidents that occurred. If and when transient folks asked for my help, I was polite and genial. We all deserve as much. Show less -

Talk about "multi-tasking"!Addendum: After being included in the company's mass layoff in March, 2012 and taking the early retirement option, Nina regularly attended Right Management's seminars which offer resume development, career/skills assessment tools, and interview and networking techniques. These beneficial sessions also helped open up awareness of various work pursuit options.
