Main purpose of role:•To support the integration of older people who have become isolated back into their neighbourhoods and wider communities of interest.•To support the building of interdependent, inclusive and caring communities and neighbourhoods across Torbay where people are more active as citizens, more self-aware and better equipped to make where they live a welcoming and enjoyable place for people to grow older together. Key tasks and responsibilities:•Using grassroots community organising strategies like Roots Solution Listening Matters (RSLM), Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) and others, implement an approach to empower local people to make life better for themselves and for others - taking extra care to strengthen the involvement of older people.•Listen widely to people of all ages and backgrounds within their own homes and in other locations to engage them in meaningful conversations which enable their voices to be heard and motivate them to take action.•Focus on what is strong, (not in what is wrong). Work hard to support people to identify their feelings and ideas, and change those aspects of social reality as to be in need of improvement. Go about these tasks in ways that are consensus building and life-enhancing. •Facilitate diverse opportunities for older people (and others) to feel good about themselves and their community in the neighbourhood(s) assigned to you and to the wider community.

472 residentshave now been listened to!Hi, I’m Nina Cooper, Community Organiser working in the Blatchcombe area for the last 12 months.Community Organising is the work of building relationships in communities to activate people and create social and political change through collective action. I have now met many people in the local community, my first year is nearly complete and after a busy year in the neighbourhood and intense training, I shall be graduating in April. I hope to continue my work in this area for my progression year.The community have been developing plans of action, running projects, events and forming groups. As the network develops the community has the power to transform our neighbourhoods.
