About Nina Edge

October 1985 – Present (30 years 4 months)UKNina Edge originally trained as a ceramicist before moving onto radical textiles, public artwork and mass live spectacle. She is renowned for her collaborative projects involving communities and has written for publications including Third Text, Cultural Hi-Jack, International Journal of Art & Design Education and Feminist Art News. Exhibitions include Virtual Duality (Bluecoat, 1994), Mirage (ICA, 1995) Transforming the Crown (Studio Museum in Harlem, 1997), The Fifth Floor: Ideas Taking Space (Tate Liverpool, 2008), Turning FACT Inside Out (2013) Recent research in housing and urban design has been developed with architects Constructive Thinking and is available via their web-site (Welsh Streets project; Design Diplomacy) a new tool for consultation in urban design which combines design practice with conflict resolution.She is the secretary and spokesperson for the Welsh Streets Home Group a housing campaign in Liverpool 8 and has extensive media and social media experience.

A detail of the paper batik element of the work features on the cover of Maud Sulter's seminal 1990 publication 'Passion; Discourses on Blackwomen's Creativity . The work is also discussed in the Claudia Clare 2016 Bloomsbury Publication, 'Subversive Ceramics'. It is sadly out of print but can be bought as a PDF at the moment.Also showing are four gold mounted A3 collages, last shown at Greenwich Citizen's Gallery in 1986 in the exhibition Jagrati, curated by Symruth Patti. The collage works are titled 'Chips On Her Shoulders Her Arms Fell Off' 'Paki Rides Home On A Piece Of Spit' 'Searching For Flowers In The Tandoori Garden' and 'Trying Not To Offend My Parents'. A detailed account of the work and its development with others involved in the 1980's Black British Art movement features in episodes 4 and 5 of the Tate Britain podcasts located on their website in support of the exhibition. The collage work will remain in London when the Tate iteration of Women In Revolt closes, travelling on to Raup and Form Gallery at EC1V 9BQ as part of a show titled Vice and Virtue opening June 21st 2024. Starting from a 2009 AND festival commission during which I drew over 20 shop windows in Bold Street whilst I was Cultural Leadership Programme Associate Artist at FACT and continuing right up until the 2024 Chinese New Year Dragon 2024.     Two paintings were commissioned by Clatterbridge Cancer Centre where there is a developing art collection. The works hang near the transport hub on the entrance level of the building. To visit the work ask staff to direct you to the acorn wall piece, one work hangs on the same wall as the acorn, the other in the adjacent corridor leading to the board room. Both of my paintings use dyes on watercolour A0 plus sized watercolour paper. The works are titled 'Pool after Sun' and 'Sun After Rain'.
