Nina Emett is founding Director of arts social enterprise FotoDocument. She is a passionate believer in visual storytelling to engage people in powerful narratives, creating active global citizenship for positive change. She has overseen the creation and delivery of four services: FotoStory creates dynamic photo essays, videography & animation for business, NGOs & public service to showcase positive social & environmental stories.Clients include CARE International, BNP Paribas, Bioregional, Southlands Hospital, Isle of Wight Council, Elite Fine Foods; FotoSchool delivers educational workshops which foster critical thinking & visual literacy. Clients include City Hall, Grace Academy, Stonebridge Primary School; FotoAward is an international documentary photography award for women, supported by Nikon, focusing on positive impact; FotoAgency's clients include Common Purpose, UnLtd, SE Assist, The Great Escape. Nina has worked as photographer, educator and curator for these services as part of a team since 2012. In 2015 she won a People Environment Achievement (PEA) Award for FotoDocument's acclaimed "One Planet City" project.Nina has worked extensively with the photography archive of the late Marilyn Stafford since 2014. She is co-Director of Marilyn Stafford Photography and Photo Archive Manager. She has curated several exhibitions of her work including at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery and is co-editor of "Marilyn Stafford - A Life in Photography" published by Bluecoat Press.Nina previously held leading roles in strategy and management in the public & voluntary sectors where she has a track record of conceptualising and delivering complex arts and issue-based projects. She was strategic lead for Brighton & Hove City Council's anti-racism strategy (2006-2009), where she implemented community cohesion measures in collaboration with Sussex Police. She worked on sabbatical in Rwanda for SURF on a therapeutic arts project for genocide survivors (2006). Previously, she managed refugee education charity, Salusbury World Refugee Centre, where she developed key support & creative services to integrate refugee children into school (1999–2003).Nina has a Level 3 Teaching Award in Education & Training (2017); is a Fellow of the School for Social Entrepreneurs (2011); holds an MSc in International Development, University of London (2006); a Postgraduate Diploma in Photojournalism, University of the Arts, London, (1997); and a BA Hons in French, Newcastle University (1991).

She co-devised and implemented community cohesion measures to reduce race-related incidents and crimes and to build trust and confidence with BAME communities. She conceived and led an innovative project to reduce racism for BAME taxi drivers in the city through first running a conference to gather intelligence on racist or religiously-motivated incidents among this community and devise solutions and subsequently installing radios in taxis to report hate crime.

ManagerSalusbury World Mar 1999 - Feb 2003Nina was appointed to set up and manage the refugee education charity Salusbury WORLD (1999–2003) which is still going strong to date. The charity provides social, educational and emotional support to refugee children and their families. Nina ran a range of services including home-school liaison, an after-school arts club and an advice centre. She coordinated the making of the film about the charity’s work In Safe Hands with Save The Children. She photographed and co-wrote the charity’s refugee education handbook "Home From Home".
