In this role I led a diverse and dynamic, newly formed internal communications and engagement team. I evolved the team's offering to be centred around the principles of managers being key to staff engagement, and creating an organisational narrative that connects our people. I worked to provide senior level support to the organisation in defining our strategic narrative. Importantly, I focused on getting both senior leaders and employees to own and drive it.

I moved the Internal Communications team from being a transactional function to one that plays an important strategic role in delivering CRUK's objectives. As part of this, I also took on Staff Engagement under my remit, which evolved the role into being Head of Internal Engagement and Communications. The premise being that Engagement is the core purpose of the function, with internal communications being a critical lever in delivering this.

In this role I established, grew and developed a team that provided invaluable communications to our fundraisers, presenting our case for support to supporters. In this role, I supported the narrative and ongoing support behind a £100m fundraising campaign as well as enabling the team to deliver compelling stories for our fundraisers across all values of income. I worked on the principle of finding ways to connect with the audience and developing stories that move and engage hearts and minds. This included: management of international strategic workshop focused on oesophageal cancer, which informed the Charity's 5 year research strategy; a strategic review focused on the requirements for engaging in early phase clinical trials that use combinations of molecularly targeted therapeutic agents;an impact assessment evaluating the historic research of the Charity; and 6 months with the National Cancer… Show more This 2-year training programme, entailed four rotations within the Charity. Wellcome Trust Neuroscience PhD programme. This involved one year of 3-month laboratory rotations followed by 4 years full PhD in developmental neuroscience at the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research.

One of the key focuses of this department is investigating the process that occur when multiple sclerosis patients spontaneously recover and why these processes eventually stop working. The project that I was involved in as a Research Assistant was investigating the role of a gene called Fak1 in remyelination.
