As the Development & Communications Associate, I support the Director of Development in all development-related activities for a charter school management organization based in San Jose, California. I track over $15 million in past and current development activity in Salesforce by creating and analyzing reports and dashboards and customizing objects and fields to meet team needs. I solicit potential new donors (foundations, corporations, and high net worth individuals) through grant proposals, letters of interest, online applications, and/or email, and track all communications in Salesforce. Additionally, I manage grant reporting for current grants by developing and implementing project plans and communicating cross-functionally with finance, academic, operations, growth, and HR teams. Finally, I design and write content for Voices' bimonthly external newsletter and distribute it to over 2,000 subscribers/potential donors.

As the 9th grade Human Geography teacher at a high-need high school in its 4th year since its founding, I was tasked with developing a curriculum for the course under the supervision of the Humanities Program Manager. My role included receiving and implementing feedback from an on-site instructional coach through weekly observational feedback and data meetings as well as engaging in weekly school site professional development with sessions on both academic instruction and school culture.

As a writer for the Duke Research Blog, I investigated research happenings at Duke by attending lectures and interviewing research personalities. The research blogging team aims to connect people to Duke's latest research by creating content that is digestible by the general public.

As the Vice President (VP) of Marketing, I strategized and implemented marketing campaigns for Duke’s LGBTQ+ club by creating materials for Facebook, Linkedin and email campaigns using Canva, an online graphic design tool. In addition, I contributed to weekly executive board meetings to brainstorm social and education events, plan programming, and determine effective outreach methods.

As a student manager, I gained an inside look into the operations of one of my long-time passions: sports. Since the beginning of my sophomore year at Duke, I oversaw most of the behind the scenes operations for game days, travel, and practices for the Duke varsity women's basketball team. Throughout my multiple years in the position, I maintained high attention to detail with on-court skills, office tasks, and the filming of games and practices. Fostering my interpersonal skills, I communicated frequently with coaches, support staff, players, and other managers to ensure that everything run smoothly day to day.

As an undergraduate research assistant for the Duke Environmental Justice (EJ) Lab, I supported the extrapolation of insights from data sets related to environmental conditions and indicators using Excel. My biggest project involved converting data from over 2,500 active Controlled Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) in North Carolina into a format useable for analysis. The EJ Lab focuses on examining environmental disparities in housing markets and neighborhoods, social and environmental determinants of health for communities, and the efficacy of environmental justice policy solutions.

I was a member of a small but quickly developing marketing communications team for RTI International's largest research division, Social, Statistical, and Environmental Sciences (SSES). Utilizing my research background, I connected with subject matter experts and digested their work to write impact stories and press releases for the RTI website. I also produced and distributed the internal weekly newsletter for SSES (over 2,000 employees). In addition, I served on the development team responsible for creating a microsite for RTI's growing Global Gender Center. Finally, I developed my social media marketing skills, creating posts for Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, as well as supporting the development of materials for trade shows and conferences.

As an intern for Duke's summer civic engagement program, DukeEngage, I spent a summer in San Francisco serving underprivileged homeless youth through fundraising for At the Crossroad's biggest event of the year. As a fundraising coordinator for the non-profit's annual fundraising hike, I communicated with teams of hikers to encourage them to raise money for the cause. As part of the fundraising process, I tracked donations and sent out high volumes of thank you notes with high attention to detail and planned social media marketing for the organization's social media accounts.

My two positions in the Duke Intramural Sports department were acting as a main referee for intramural volleyball games and as a scorekeeper and statistics recorder for intramural flag football games. As a volleyball referee, I directly lead the flow of games with my thorough knowledge of all rules and a deep understanding of the sport. As a flag football scorekeeper I checked players in, kept track of equipment, and made sure intramural leagues ran smoothly and efficiently.
