I worked in the Department of Integrative Structural and Computational Biology in Dr. Ian Wilson’s lab. His lab focuses on recognition of microbial pathogens by the immune system and structure-based design of vaccines and therapeutics. My research focused on the discovery of broad neutralizing antibodies to the influenza A virus.

I worked in the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity under the mentorship of Dr. Amy Lovett-Racke. Her lab investigates the role that T cells play in the onset and progression of multiple sclerosis to understand the cause of disease and develop therapies to treat the disease. My work focused specifically on the role that vitamin D plays in protecting the central nervous system in early life.

I worked under the mentorship of Dr. Melissa Petreaca. Her lab studies the regulation of neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation by the cytokine TNFSF14/LIGHT, the effect of anti-depressant drugs on neutrophil functions and inflammation, and the impact of nutraceuticals on neutrophil functions and inflammation. My research project focused on investigating the antioxidant properties of ginger.

I provided support to first-year students so they had all the tools to be successful in their first year of college. Our goal is to help transition them into life at DePauw. I served as a role model, peer advocate, interventionist, administrator and team player for these students.

Working along with two other students, my role as a student representative was to serve as a bridge between the students and faculty/staff. Every week, we would have a student meeting where we would give announcements and allow the students to express their concerns. We would also have dinner with the staff so that we could effectively communicate their concerns.
