Events Intern
As a member of the six-person Development team at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, I assisted with established annual events, such as the Fall and Spring Gallery Nights, and the MMoCA Art & Gift Fair. However, I also worked heavily on Chroma, a brand-new event, from its creative brainstorming beginnings, all the way through its execution and post-event debrief. This involved coming up with event concepts to celebrate the theme--the ROYGBIV color spectrum, and the idea of color as an artistic element as well as all of its social iterations--communicating with participating artists, entertainment and volunteers, doing community outreach both to solicit participants as well as drum up excitement and increase attendance numbers. As a result of our efforts as a team, to which I was an integral member, we had more than 1,380 attendees in the span of the four-hour event.
Student Assistant
I worked as Student Assistant to the Wisconsin Regional Art Program, a state-wide program run through the UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies, with a mission to encourage student and non-professional or recreational artists. I gained experience in collections care, overseeing storage, display, and inventory of our Permanent Collection, as well as researching and writing features on the pieces and artists. These features were posted to our blog, which I managed and kept updated. I was also in charge of managing and posting on our Facebook page. During my time as a Student Assistant, I was able to increase engagement on our Facebook, by posting not only the relevant event details for our artist workshops, but by also posting articles and videos on art topics that were of interest to our particular artist base.
Consignments Intern
As a Consignments Intern, I was able to interact with many different departments, and gain a bit of experience in all sides of the auction process. I catalogued and tagged consigned lots, generated interest lists, and researched and compiled informational packets on high profile sales. For example, LHA acquired a number of pieces from the Frank Lloyd Wright Coonley Playhouse. Due to the nature of the sale, distributing information on the history of the house and the specific pieces consigned was an important part of attracting potential buyers.
Institutional Advancement Intern
During my summer internship at the Chicago History Museum, I worked alongside the Development team and two other interns to rework our annual fund strategies. This involved a large-scale segmentation project, doing prospect research and data mining & analysis in Raiser's Edge, and then ranking museum members in a customized excel program to determine likelihood of donation. In addition, I assisted with member events and our auxiliary groups, doing mail merges, sending invitations, preparing materials for the events, and greeting guests in a professional and welcoming matter.
Curatorial & Collections Intern
The Vittorio Zironi Museum of Textiles and Upholstery was born out of a private collection, and housed within a spacious and historic villa on the outskirts of Bologna's city center. After coming into the city's possession, it remained closed for some time. In my Curatorial internship at the museum, I worked as one half of a two person team reorganizing the museum to be reopened, and building the exhibits up for public view. This involved the research, cataloguing, and rearrangement of the exhibits housed within the villa. I translated didactic materials from English to Italian, and vice versa. Additionally, I built upon these translations to generate and present material for museum tours, that I then organized and lead for students and adults in Bologna.
