Phd In Management - Managing By DesignUniversity Of Canberra 2007 - Mar 2013Australian Capital Territory, AuNina was awarded her PhD in Management, titled, "Managing by Design from the University of Canberra in March 2013. Her thesis proposes a new form of public management – managing by design. The purpose of this study was to explore the adoption and embedding of design as a management practice in the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is known as a pioneer in the field of applying design approaches to public management problems. This case study applies Actor Network Theory (ANT) to draw out the importance of the human and non-human actors that make up networks of action and interaction, which over a decade have permitted the embedding of design in the management practices of the ATO. This study critically contributes to a growing interest in how organisations can adopt and embed design and, in particular, contributes empirical evidence of public management adopting design which directly contributes to the growing interests in citizen-centric management practices in public management and leadership. Nina's primary supervisor was Dr Anni Dugdale.Key words: Managing by design, citizen-centric, Australian Taxation Office, Actor Network Theory, Participatory design, Public Sector Management -
