Applied Scientist

Bellevue, Wa, Us

Principal Machine Learning Scientist

Princeton, New Jersey, United States

Develop and deploy various state-of-the-art neural architectures (e.g., large language models, attention-based models, neural operators, variational autoencoders, disentangled/causal representation learning, generative modeling) to physics-based application scenarios.

Subject Matter Expert In Machine Learning

Princeton, New Jersey, United States

Mainly involved in developing and applying state-of-the-art machine learning models to accelerate the prediction of multi-physics simulations, such as using Graph/Fourier Neural Operators and Variational Autoencoders to learn aircraft aerodynamics of a Boeing 737 and the process modeling of composite curing. Another line of work is on building digital twins for additive manufacturing and anomaly detection.

Research and software development on computational mechanics and machine learning.

Sep 2018 - Dec 2019

Graduate Student Research Assistant

Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States

The research projects I have worked on include:1. Feature-preserving rational Bézier triangles for isogeometric damage analysis with higher-order gradient-enhanced models -Implemented rational Bézier triangles with a Delaunay-based feature-preserving mesh generation. -Used implicit higher-order gradient damage model with dissipation-based arc-length control.2. A geometrically exact isogeometric Kirchhoff plate: feature-preserving automatic meshing and C1 rational triangular Bézier spline discretizations: -Described boundary NURBS curves with rational Bézier splines that preserved exact geometry. -Adopted a Delaunay-based automatic meshing technique with Laplacian smoothing. -Increased the flexibility in discretization with domain triangulation.3. Adaptive isogeometric analysis in structural frames using a layer-based discretization to model spread of plasticity: -Formulated a distributed-plasticity large-deformation IGA frame model. -Separated thickness integration from the length direction to retain a 1D data structure. -Included adaptive analysis where knots were inserted based on yielding information.4. Isogeometric analysis of laminated composite and functionally graded sandwich plates based on a layerwise displacement theory: -Formulated a multi-layered composite plate based on the layerwise displacement theory. -Adopted knot repetition to create C0-continuity at dissimilar material interfaces. -Captured the complete 3D stress state in a 2D setting in laminated composites with a FGM core.5. Combining load-controlled and displacement-controlled algorithms to model thermal-mechanical snap-through instabilities in structures: -Considered non-uniform transient temperature and temperature-dependent material response. -Analyzed the thermal-mechanical snap-through instabilities in structures with a hybrid load- controlled/displacement-controlled algorithm.
