As one of the three VPE's in Conviva, I am responsible for driving the product and engineering roadmap, with the focus on the Beijing team:* Build and train the Beijing engineering team that covers both Product Engineering and Platform Engineering* Create the execution strategy and roadmap for the China office. Bridge the communication and collaborations with development centers in US and India, securing the resource, and ensure the alignment between China Center's work with global company strategy.* Oversee the end-to-end system architecture for all teams in China, including design and development of the corresponding system components.* Nurture a strong team culture that emphasizes team work, execution excellence, and innovation.

Build the China office from scratch, including setting up the business entity, recruiting, training and retain the team. The team currently has 80 people, covering both Product (PM and UX Design) and Engineering (frontend, backend, big-data, data science, QE, and Ops/IT), together with HR. China team today is responsible for 3 product lines and 3 platform components.The main challenge as well as a key achievement of working in this role is the integration between US engineering culture with that of China local culture. We are proud that we are able to leverage on the strength of both sides.

Lead a team that built the topics platform, supporting Pinterest's Topics product, providing an innovative way of organizing Pinterest content, enabling an effective discovering experience based on user interests. The frontend features were launched on all platforms (web, iOS, and Android) in the summer of 2014.This is a full-stack team that is responsible for the Topics product end-to-end. The platform includes offline big-data processing pipeline using NLP and various ML algorithms, online data storage and serving, REST API endpoints.

StreamUp is a video relevance platform that combines human intelligence with machine learning algorithms to provide users with an easy and collaborative way of discovering, watching, organizing and sharing video matching their niche interests. As one of the two founders, working on both the frontend and backend of the system, including product design, software development, production deployment and maintenance.

Responsible for three functional components of Conviva engineering: Video Streaming Monitoring and Optimization, Data Visualization, and Data Analysis. Supervise the engineering effort on Precision support over OVPP platforms and on mobile and TV devices. Interface with major premium content owners on video streaming technologies. Lead the technical interaction with a major China TV content owner to bring Conviva products into China market. Manage daily customer-facing data analysis requests.

Led the client team on video streaming monitoring and optimization products. Responsible for interfacing with other teams including integration and sales teams, and directly participated customer engagement. Led the design and development of multiple major features for Conviva Precision Player. Worked with a major online sport content provider to integrate Conviva Precision solution, supporting both live and VOD contents. Trained multiple junior engineers in the team.

Conviva Precision Player: Designed and developed the first version of Conviva Precision Player that intelligently adapts to network environment change by changing playing bitrate and serving CDNs, seamlessly. This player and the later improved versions are used by many top-tier premium content owners.Dynamic Chunk Video Delivery System: Designed and developed a highly flexible low-cost chunk-based video content delivery system that can stitch video chunks into a seamless video stream, and dynamically adjusts streaming rates and serving CDNs to optimize user experience.Scalable High-Performance Data Storage System: Designed and developed a scalable and high-performance data storage system that allows distributed system components to exchange and aggregate information.

Knowledge Extraction System: Designed, developed and optimized a knowledge extraction system. Results of this system are used to improve the quality of Q/A site. Heavily used MapReduce for large-scale data processing.Google Production-Network Monitoring System: Designed and developed a network monitoring system to run on all Google data-center machines. Responsible for data collecting, processing, and presenting (UI). Heavily used Bigtable and Sawzall in the development. Also in charge of the system's daily maintenance in production.
