In August 2016 I have decided to gain experience in Marine Cargo Inspections by working for several local insurance companies as a freelance cargo surveyor. It was a very good opportunity to gain experience in managing a business, people, and business relationships. During my work as a freelance surveyor, I was able to learn a good deal about myself and my weaknesses and how to face them. I could run a very successful business which I am proud to say changed my life.

AIA is the turning point that changed my whole career. It opened me up to many challenges which I could face and successfully overcome. During my tenure at AIA I was promoted once and awarded 2 times consecutively with Living Operating Principals Award at the annual company conference and 4 times with rainbow cards which is an onsite rewarding system for a job well done. I was initially assigned to handle marine claims and then my duties were expanded in to Property & Engineering Insurance claims as well. I had to communicate with local and overseas clients, service providers and colleagues within AIA. I gained a lot of my knowledge in General Insurance during my stay at AIA.

I joined Janashakthi Insurance as a Data Entry Operator and in three months my duties were changed and advanced to work as a Front Office Underwriter. I learned my A, B, C in General Insurance at Janashakthi and gained very good experience in dealing with customers in face-to-face encounters which helped a lot in my position at AIA. With my good record as a Front Office Underwriter, the management decided to expand my duties by promoting me as a Branch Handling Officer. It was my duty to overlook the work of the underwriting staff of 05 branches in Western Province. It was a very good opportunity where I got a very good experience in working with people and underwriting General Insurance policies.
