Although, l possess the necessary academic, technical and management skills to interact, research and acquire information, the ability to make well-informed decisions solely relies on an in-depth analysis in my opinion. Consequently, my technical mindset has evolved formulating value-based assessment reports in the engineering domain. Value-based approaches use proven criteria to assess the impact of a proposed project, programme or policy. I believe the use of such a robust approach, which forms the basis of the intersection between engineering and economics, is more than relevant in the social impact sector as well.To that end, I gained invaluable experience interacting with diverse cultures that have gone a long way in shaping my personality. I often find myself comfortable in unfamiliar social environments. An attribute of my strengths includes the ability to listen, empathize and communicate among other things. My lived experience however, has revealed the underlying social and environmental inequality present in our current global growth model. I believe such a model is in direct conflict with holistic development claims made by corporate institutions advocating capitalistic agendas worldwide. As I matured, I became deeply concerned about these unsustainable models of growth and began to sow the seeds for a career transition out of the corporate sector in order to apply my expertise in the social impact sector.
