About Niraj Kumar, Ph.D.

i am a native of Motihari, East Champaran District of Bihar. Presently working as an Assistant Professor of Zoology in Laxmi Narain Dubey College(B. R. Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur), Motihari, East Champaran, Bihar. I have received Bachelor of Science (Zoology Honours) and Master of Science (Zoology with specialization in Ichthyology) degrees from Munshi Singh College, Motihari (B. R. A. Bihar University, Muzaffarpur) and was conferred Ph.D. in Zoology from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur in the year 2014.Previously worked as Consultant Biologist (Field Officer, Valmiki Tiger Reserve, West Champaran, Bihar) during 2016-2017 in India’s leading and dedicated wildlife conservation organization Wildlife Trust of India in Gandak Gharial Project. I have also worked as an Young Professional in Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India) Barrackpore, Kolkata in a NFDB (National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad) funded project on development of Wetlands of North Bihar during 2017-2018.

    BSI is working to reduce snakebite related mortality and disability in East & West Champaran districts of Bihar through awareness progarmmes. The main mission of Bihar Snakebite Initiative is to aware communities in India’s most backward state, Bihar particularly rural Bihar about snakebite envenomation including prevention, first aid, treatment and human-snake conflict mitigation. The Bihar Snakebite Initiative will also focus on to train people to rescue and relocate the venomous and non-venomous snakes following snake encounters.The core vision of Bihar Snakebite Initiative is that the numbers of mortality caused by snakebite and cases of disability may be reduced by 50% before 2030 through advocacy and mass awareness programmes throughout the state of Bihar especially in rural areas where most snakebite cases are reported.
