This internship has been one of the most valuable learning experiences of my academic journey, offering hands-on exposure to psychology that bridges theoretical knowledge with practical application. The program provided in-depth training on essential topics such as micro skills in psychology, ethical practice guidelines, consent form design, and the critical role of empathy in building therapeutic rapport. Additionally, I was introduced to diverse therapeutic modalities, risk assessment techniques, and the principles of trauma-informed care, which are essential for sensitive psychological practice. Among the most impactful elements were the mock therapy sessions, where I practiced as a therapist in simulated settings. These sessions provided invaluable opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in real-time, identify areas for improvement, and receive constructive feedback. This feedback loop was crucial in refining my counseling approach, enhancing my confidence, and improving my interpersonal skills as a future practitioner. Perhaps the most significant part of the internship, however, is the opportunity to work with a real client under supervision. Concluding the program with six hours of pro bono therapy offers an unparalleled chance to gain practical experience in a real-world setting while positively impacting someone’s life. This hands-on opportunity represents a meaningful step forward in my training, allowing me to apply what I have learned in a supervised and supportive environment. I am immensely grateful to have been part of such a comprehensive program. This experience has laid a strong foundation for my future practice, providing the skills and insights necessary for responsible counseling.

During this 240-hour internship in Ahmedabad, I had the opportunity to observe and assist in numerous counseling sessions, providing me with first-hand experience in a clinical setting. I gained a comprehensive understanding of case history taking and the Mental Status Examination (MSE), crucial tools for assessing and understanding clients' psychological conditions. My training also included a deep dive into Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), where I not only learned the theoretical aspects but also applied these techniques in practical scenarios.Furthermore, I actively participated in case studies and role plays, which allowed me to hone my counseling skills and develop a stronger grasp of therapeutic practices. This experience was invaluable in solidifying my ability to apply CBT effectively while enhancing my capacity for empathy, active listening, and compassionate care in a real-world context.
