I am a Historian and Curator with the National Park Service at Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in St. Louis, Missouri. Within the field of public history I specialize in interpretation, museum education, education theory, public programming, collections management, Section 106 compliance work, and historical research. I regularly work with people from all walks of life through tours of Ulysses S. Grant’s St. Louis home, “White Haven,” virtual presentations, teacher workshops, speaking engagements, social media posts, and school visits.I hold an MA degree in History with a concentration in Public History from Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and two BA degrees in History Education (certified in Social Studies, grades 5-12) and Music Performance from Lindenwood University. My work in the historical enterprise extends beyond the National Park Service into the creation of historical scholarship. I have written four peer-reviewed journal articles, including “I Never Was An Abolitionist: Ulysses S. Grant and Slavery, 1854-1863,” which was published by the Journal of the Civil War Era in September 2019. I have also written hundreds of blog posts on my personal website, “Exploring the Past,” and am currently a regular correspondent for the Journal of the Civil War Era’s blog, “Muster.” In addition to my work as a public historian, I am a professionally trained electric and upright bassist who is available for hire for occasional gigs or private lessons. Excellent recommendations upon request.Anyone seeking to contact me may do so through email at PastExplore@gmail.com, Twitter (@NickSacco55), or my personal blog, "Exploring the Past," at www.pastexplore.wordpress.com
