I was asked to Chair a newly formulated committee during 2020 when restrictions to the medical workforce were enforced during the pandemic. In order to support our Ophthalmic fraternity, we commenced this group to ensure that Health and Wellbeing of Ophthalmologists and our staff was maintained during this unprecedented time of lockdown. The Committee has continued to provide support to the profession and will continue as a sustainable committee.

I was invited to be involved in restructuring our Vocational Training Programme in Ophthalmology. In essence, this is how we train Ophthalmologists in Australia and New Zealand. We have rolled out this new VTP this year, which involves Surgical Simulation as part of our training programme. The new Curriculum is to ensure our future Ophthalmologists have secured all the clinical, non clinical skills to become a safe, efficient and empathic Ophthalmologist, incorporating a healthywork/life balance.

This committee involves liasing with the federal government regarding Medicare practices and item numbers. Any policy changes to any existing item number requires approval following discussing with our RANZCO Ophthalmologists. In addition, as an advocacy body, we suggest new item numbers that may be required for new diagnostic modalities and new treatment modalities, such as intravitreal injections to save sight in patients with Macular Degeneration, Diabetes and Retinal Vein Occlusions.

I am an examiner for our Ophthalmology Registrars in our Vocational Training Programme. This is the Education component to my role as an Ophthalmologist. This involves initially creating documents outlining what is required for our trainees to fulfil. Following this, as examiners were set the examination. I am in the OBCK examination group. We then examine the trainees twice a year, who are in the first year of their Vocational Training Programme in Ophthalmology.

This role involves residing on the IAC that looks after all RANZCO finances with a total equity of $40M. I was invited to reside on this committee as NSW Branch executive treasurer, which occupies 11.3% of the total equity of the RANZCO portfolio. We work closely with JB Were, who oversee our investment portfolio.

I held a position on the executive for the NSW Branch of RANZCO, as treasurer. This branch looks after all NSW Ophthalmology matters. The role involves looking after the finances for the NSW branch of RANZCO, the biggest financial branch of RANZCO with a total equity of 2.8 M. My role was instrumental in restructuring the finances in 2017, in order to create an investment portfolio that has superseded our proposed yield. The executive position also involves education, governance and structure of All NSW Ophthalmologists.

I was Chair of the Younger Fellows Group of RANZCO- A younger fellow is a newly graduated Ophthalmologist within 10 years of obtaining Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. I was instrumental in being a voice in raising issues that young Ophthalmologists face when commencing their working life as a specialists in practice in Australia and New Zealand. I expanded the group to include Young Ophthalmologists from every state in Australia and New Zealand. I commenced the Business Skills Seminar for RANZCO, in collaboration (and now under the umbrella) with the ASO in order to provide business skills training dorOphthalmologists. I organised true ASO by Sinead skills seminars annually from 2012-2016.
