My journey from First Database Engineer(joined after founding team DBA) to leading Database Operations team @ LinkedInDuring my time at LinkedIn our member base grew from 4+ to 360+ million. Database fleet grew from single monolithic Oracle database to farm of distributed databases using multiple technologies.I, together with some very smart engineers were responsible for Building, Scaling and Supporting some of the largest and busiest databases on the web; profile, messaging/email, network updates, endorsements, invitations, connections, recruiter, advertisement, money etc to name few. It was great experience to contribute to every single persistent data store in early growth years of Linkedin.We went thru lot of transformation in data stores. We moved many of our databases from RDBMS to NoSQL, Oracle to MySQL etc. Over time we moved towards multipurpose/hybrid DB environment.(Oracle, MySQL, Espresso, Voldemort, RDBMS, NoSQL and more) It was great experience to learn, adapt and apply different data solutions to emerging problems.In later years, I was leading incredibly talented Database Engineering and Operations team to facilitate Engineering and Product efforts.

• Worked with the team of 30 DBAs managing more than 1200 Oracle databases for more than 300 applications running on various platforms from version Oracle 8.x.x to 10.x.x./RAC on Sun Solaris, HP UX, IBM AIX, Linux and Windows.• Involved in managing Planned/Unplanned applications and databases failover / failback using Oracle Standby/Data Guard and Real time replication using different versions of Quest Shareplex. • Involved in Database Security plans, Auditing and Database encryption at enterprise level. Used TDE(Oracle 10g) and INGRIAN - third party tools for oracle database encryption.

• Responsible for helping Dean, School Of Engineering, with his various courses and research work. • Conducting classes and labs for graduate level course Operating System (CS 503).• Taking care of IT labs in school, maintenance and general trouble shootings.
