I am currently a private tutor for science (to GCSE) and A level biology, as well as providing home education sessions in science. I run face-to face session locally, online sessions via JTC (to students in Dubai and Bahrain) and Home School Tutoring (local, hybrid). I also deliver some online A level tuition with the The Access Project (TAP), bringing tutorials to A-Level students from disadvantaged backgrounds in order to boost their chances of getting into their university of choice. Prior to this, I utilised my self-taught language skills to build a small business that fit around family life. I spent 3 years running my own Kidslingo franchise, bringing vibrant Spanish classes to schools, nurseries and private groups in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. Despite having no prior experience running a business, I built this in to a successful franchise with classes regularly over-subscribed, and evolved with changing pandemic restrictions to deliver virtual lessons, with excellent feedback. For the majority of my career, I worked as a clinical study coordinator and post-doctoral research associate specialising in the genetics of red cell disorders (sickle cell anaemia). The role was varied, including laboratory research and writing journal publications, presenting at international conferences, managing clinical studies and communicating with patients and medical staff. Through this I have honed skills that allow me to communicate complex scientific ideas to both specialists and the general public. Out of work: I have a passion for travel, and have visited India, Borneo, East Africa, much of Europe and had an extended period of work and travel in Latin America. My love of language stems from this (the ability to communicate and make a connection with people is a highlight of my experiences) and consequently I can speak Spanish (strong), Gujarati (conversational), French (basic conversational), as well as the odd phrase / greeting in Malay, Swahili, German, Dutch. I have scuba dived in the UK and many of my travel destinations, and enjoy the outdoors in general. As a family we spend our weekends in woodlands, beaches and rivers, and enjoy camping, cycling and paddle boarding, with our dog adding chaos to our adventures.
