We believe that nearly all business decisions will eventually be driven by Data Science and less by gut and intuition.

Led the Data Science team at Snapdeal, based out of San Carlos, CA. Snapdeal is one of the leading e-commerce companies in India with multi-billion dollars in sales volume. The Data Science team is responsible for optimizing the business end to end, including customer acquisition, app and site performance, pricing strategy, merchandizing, supply chain management and the overall customer experience. Our goal is to use data to help maintain growth of the business while bringing it to profitability. The team's work led to a 90% reduction in transaction losses, driven by 80% increase in gross margins by smarter pricing and margin management, 20% reduction in cost of fulfillment by weeding out the inefficiencies in the supply chain within 4 months. We also helped increase app conversion rate by 30%+ by optimizing the conversion funnel, helped craft a strategic response to Amazon's Prime offering in India, among several other initiatives. Also helped grow and scale the team to about 100 Data Scientists and Analysts, working with several functions across the company.

Advised a small number of start-ups in the SF Bay Area, helping them use data to set their product, growth, marketing and overall business strategy. The areas I focused on were: building data teams, product and marketing analytics, growth strategy, data infrastructure, building large-scale machine learning and predictive modeling based data systems.

Helped build an online learning platform that makes learning fun, engaging and accessible to all. Udacity offers online courses that help anyone to acquire and enhance their tech skills, at their own pace and at a time and place of their convenience. Led the successful launch of the platform for the first "for-pay" offering of Udacity courses, the Nanodegrees platform from the Engineering side.

Built and led the Data Science team from scratch, helped transform Groupon from its early days as a raw but rapidly growing start up into a world-class, data driven company. The team was responsible for ensuring that the most important strategic and operational decisions at the company are driven by data and science rather than by gut or intuition, evangelizing the use of data across the company, and for optimizing the business in following ways: 1. Matching deal supply and consumer demand by optimizing deal selection (what deals to run in which markets, in what locations, determining the optimal deal mix, price mix, etc.) and deal targeting (which deals to show to which users based on user interests, demographics and past behavior)2. Optimizing online ad spending budget of 100's of millions of dollars to acquire the most profitable subscribers in the most cost effective way.3. Optimize the product experience for users by analyzing patterns in user interactions with Groupon products (email, web site, mobile app), helping design the A/B testing infrastructure, and analyzing product experiments.Built the team from scratch to 25+ data scientists. The team's work has led to hundreds of millions of incremental sales impact on multiple occasions and has shaped the business strategy and top priorities for the company.

Mine user behavior data to understand how users use search, how they interact with ads, measure the quality of search and search ads experience, how to improve that user experience, how to improve yield (rev per query) of Google's search traffic, and how to analyze search and ads experiments. Won an EMG award (with the team) and several peer bonuses.

Led a Data Mining research group; Responsible for using data mining and analysis to analyze how users use Yahoo products, how to improve user experience, targeting of ads, and using data insights to support executive decision making on Yahoo's product and business strategy. Examples of our work include optimizing allocation of ad inventory to maximize ad campaign effectiveness, predicting purchase intent (eg, for a car) using clickstream analysis, email spam detection, improving monetization of Search queries, and User-centric analyses of usage of several Yahoo products strategic to Yahoo's business. Most of our projects influenced product and business strategy for several key products, led to feature launches on Yahoo! web sites, have had tens of millions of dollars revenue impact each, or influenced decision making at the CXO level on several strategic issues. Won the individual superstar award at Yahoo in 2005, among other honors.

Part of the team that wrote Akamai's flagship FreeFlow(tm) server. Was responsible for implementing many features in Akamai's network of 11000+ Freeflow servers, including the Internet Content Adaptation Protocol(ICAP), Transfer Encoding, compression, collecting and logging TCP level per-connection statistics and many others.
