Metropolitan Detention Center Of Brooklyn

The Rethinking Justice program offers educational opportunities to incarcerated men, which can help in reduced sentences, employment, further education, and lower recidivism rates. As student interns, we work with professors to help organize and teach 3-week or 6-week mini-courses at MDC, a maximum security Federal Prison in Brooklyn. We also have a pedagogical training day, as well as justice-oriented workshops.

Boston

Generation Teach is a summer program serving middle school students from lower income communities around the country, aimed at preventing summer slide. As teaching fellows, we receive two weeks of training before the program begins, with an emphasis on restorative teaching practices. Then, we work as full-time teachers during the four-week summer program, designing our own curriculum for the classes we teach, and receiving feedback and guidance from coaches throughout the summer.

New York City

Part-time teacher at the after-school STEM Kids program at P.S. 76, teaching coding classes as well as assisting with robotics and general science classes. Responsibilities involved planning for classes, coordinating and communicating with the other teachers, organizing events, and other such duties.

Mumbai Area, India

8 week volunteer internship, mainly focused on public relations and building the annual report. Mumbai Mobile Creches is an NGO that works with migrant worker communities on construction sites in Mumbai. They set up centers directly on the sites to provide children with proper nutrition, health care, and education.

San Francisco, Ca

Twelve-week software engineering internship, working on the Home Timelines team on Android. I worked in Java using Android Studio and IntelliJ. My main projects for the summer were to build a debugging tool for internal users, assist on new Caret and Nightmode features, and begin designing a timeline archiver.

Teaching Assistant at the 7-week Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program. Also became a spokesperson for the rapidly growing Girls Who Code organization. In our class of twenty girls, we taught Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and jQuery. We helped them in building and debugging their projects, organized field trips to other tech companies, and planned extra activities - from games to panels and speakers - for them during the day.
