About Nick Walker
I am a solution-focused executive with a strong belief that the true strength of an organization lies in it culture. As a leader, you have three jobs: set organizational direction, get the resources (people, tools and finances) to fulfill that direction and hold the teams you empower accountable for completing the mission. I believe that my track record shows I know how to get those things done.In my first five years as Memphis Parks Director, we've reduced the backlog in our accounts payable, implemented a cloud-based scheduling solution for our community centers, completed the division's first master plan in more than 20 years, become just the third agency in Tennessee (and 213th overall) CAPRA accredited agency, increased our staffing in community centers, aquatics, golf and park operations. In FY22, we secured nearly $100M in new capital spending, a 15-fold increase over the division's average annual allotment. Additionally, the increase in our program performance has seen our operating budget increase from $30.4M in FY20 to $49.9M in FY24.I am a data professional and technology leader with extensive experience in data strategy, process, analytics, and oversight for budget and logistics. In 2017 I joined the City of Memphis as the Performance Data Manager where I led our data acquisition and publication program, and in 2018 I transitioned to Deputy Director of Memphis Parks before becoming the Parks Director in 2020.During my time with the Office of Performance Management, we used data and analysis to find innovative and creative solutions to the problems city leadership asked us to address.
