Designed an innovative, non-invasive blood pressure monitor that set out to improve upon accuracy and electronic data collection for long-term analysis via a mobile app. Developed, tested, and iterated on a prototype for our client, a physician at the Duke Hospital. Worked collaboratively on an engineering team to write technical documents and present oral/visual technical reports.

Led an independent project investigating stromal immunomodulation and the role of the lipid phosphatase INPP4B in melanoma. This project investigated the immunologic impact of tumor-associated genetic alterations that occur in response to cancer-associated stromal fibroblasts. This work involved the use of statistical techniques to analyze quantitative data and associate immunologic outcomes with tumor growth. Ultimately, we aim to leverage this data toward the design of novel immunotherapy strategies for cancer.

I worked alongside Dr. Burris at the Duke University School of Medicine Zebrafish Core Facilities, which is one of the largest biomedical aquaculture facilities in the world. My primary responsibility was to provide aquaculture services for over 12,000 tanks for 8 different biomedical research labs exploring primitive and simplified molecular mechanisms to elevate our understanding of human development and diseases.

I worked with youth who are homeless or at risk of discrimination and harassment due to their sexual or gender identity to help meet their basic needs for housing, food and employment. At Larkin, I designed and led a four-week robotics lesson plan and robotics challenge as well as created a chess club in the Engagement & Community Center.

The Donhoue Lab studies environment-dependent phenotypic expression: what genetic, epigenetic, and developmental mechanisms enable environment-dependent phenotypes; what is the adaptive significance of phenotypic plasticity, and what are its evolutionary and demographic consequences? I researched the effects of double mutations on germination and flowering time for the species Arabadopsis Thaliana throughout numerous genetic pathways in a variety of different environments. I facilitated three different projects in the lab for five graduate and PhD students through data collection, statistical analysis and cultivation of 500 plants.
