I curate the cigar selection at this downtown Miami cigar bar, which is part of Ariete Hospitality Group. In addition, my role involves training staff on cigars and tobacco products, designing programming for guests, and providing transportation for the bar's thrice weekly security system, Peaty the dog, a geriatric 30-pound terrier with arthritis, hearing loss, and chronic apathy about his job.I'm mostly riding his coattails, as guests seem to think Peaty is the more valuable asset to the El Vecino team.

DADE is a web magazine for great stories and fresh perspective. It's feature writing and podcasts and videos and art and all sorts of stuff.Sometimes great chefs, brewers and other experts agree to eat food on camera in my living room. Weird.

As Cigar Snob's senior editor, I smoked cigars with regularity. I occasionally also traveled to places where tobacco is grown, rolled or sold. While there, I worked on my farmer's tan, gestured inquisitively at plants, drank brown spirits, and conducted interviews through thick clouds of smoke.Occasionally, when in need of a change of pace, I wrote, recorded and edited things, including print, podcast and video editorial content.

I write and manage content for the Cigars site on About.com (cigars.about.com).Note: "Expert" isn't a word I like to use, and I certainly wouldn't call myself an expert in cigars when there are so many people who have spent lifetimes in tobacco farming and cigar making.

As a student at the Missouri School of Journalism, I was a reporter at the Columbia MIssourian, as well as affiliate news sources like Revista ¡Adelante!, a bilingual newsmagazine serving several central Missouri communities, and Radio ¡Adelante!, the newsmagazines Radio counterpart.I reported, wrote and recorded a variety of stories, including restaurant reviews, sports, higher education, music and immigration.

During this short period, I moved things around at a Sam's Club store—usually to restock shelves or update merchandising.They never found out, but I once fell asleep on the job. Standing up. With a "family pack" of toilet paper in my hands. When I woke up, I realized I'd torn it to shreds.

Mostly immobilized by knee surgery made necessary by a traumatic snowball fight injury, I spent a summer in college hobbling through the wild world of English-language Hispanic business journalism.I edited copy for various Page One magazines, conducted Internet research, and provided other forms of support to the Page One Media editorial staff (so long as I could support them with my leg elevated).

On weekends and during summers in high school, I was responsible for providing support to the management and ownership of two Quiznos franchises owned by my father and a lifelong friend of his.My responsibilities included, but were not limited to: tracking inventory, distributing coupons, producing financial reports, dressing up as a giant cup of soda, breaking up fights that broke out among the restaurants' staff, translating non-sandwich related terms for non-English/Spanish speakers on both sides of the counter, and ensuring overall customer satisfaction.Not including those that involved my donning an inflatable soda costume (a dangerous outfit in downtown Miami, as my heavy padding and obstructed vision literally made me an ideal punching bag for passersby), my most successful act as Assistant Manager involved a complaint from a delivery customer who claimed her sandwich had lettuce on it despite her insisting that lettuce not be included. I had our driver send her a voucher for a free lunch... at the bottom of a large bowl of lettuce.She loved it.
