The impact of this work lied in incorporating in vitro evolved sensors of exquisite specificity for their target protein biomarkers in completely genetically encoded biosensor designs. To this end, I successfully prototyped two designs; one design utilised SELEX derived RNA-aptamer sensors incorporated into mRNA constructs to engineer ligand regulated sensor devices that produced a reporter protein output in cell-free extract reactions, and the second design utilised antibody fragments in a whole-cell bio-sensing platform. Research ScientistImperial College London Oct 2015 - Mar 2016London, United KingdomLaboratory scientist. Utilised a combination of computational and laboratory techniques for the design and construction of DNA & RNA libraries that aided the identification of functional biomolecules. E. coli host chassis was the project's workhorse organism of choice and E. coli cell- extract was used for high-throughput screening assays. -
