What drives the long-term success or failure of leaders and organizations? What skills do senior leaders need, and how are these acquired? How is strategy best developed and executed? These are the kinds of questions that preoccupy me in my work as a management educator, consultant, and CEO coach. I work internationally with senior executives in major corporations helping them to further develop their leadership and strategic capabilities. I'm often invited as a keynote speaker at client conferences, and I also teach at leading business schools on both executive and MBA programs.My research focuses on executive development processes, and my book, Making Strategic Leaders, explores high-impact individual development and offers new insights into strategic leadership. Prior to taking up a portfolio career in 2015, I was Dean of Graduate Studies at Ashridge Business School. However, I'm not a typical academic, and my work is at the cusp of theory and practice. I spent the first 15 years of my career in various general management positions in industry, managing businesses in challenging environments and making tough decisions; some right, some wrong, and I've learned valuable lessons (and carry the scars) from these experiences.I've studied economics and management, and in 2008, I was awarded a doctorate at Cranfield University in England.
