Everywhere you look in our state, you'll see connections to the University of Nebraska, from our campus in Kearney, to the urban settings of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska Medical Center and of course, our Big Ten institution, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. We further our collaboration on a global scale through the work of the Buffett Early Childhood Institute and the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute to solve global issues in early childhood development as well as food security and water sustainability.The beauty of this work is that our true strength comes from working together. By collaborating across our state with the best and brightest faculty, researchers, and students, we continue to make a huge difference on our world. I used to be asked “So what is it you do?” and every day it became harder and harder to define. At its core, I was responsible for connecting the friends and alumni of Minnesota State University, Mankato back to the institution in ways that are meaningful to them. We did that with a number of nationally recognized and award-winning programs, initiatives, and one-on-one connections that enhanced the quality of our education “One Maverick at a Time.”Managing a multi-million dollar budget and a diverse advancement services and operations team was a highlight of my career, but being a part of four consecutive years of philanthropic growth, including the best fundraising years in the Minnesota State System's history was by far the best part of being at MSU. I was able to work with incredible colleagues, teach some of the brightest young students, and work with donors who were committed to making MSU a premier regional public institution. It was 5 of the best years of my life and I will forever be a Maverick!
