I am a versatile software developer with experience in various industries: from distance education to financial services and data acquisition and control. I love learning: be it a new skill, a new knowledge domain, or a new way to solve a known problem.I can- automate configuration of a fleet of 30 lecture-capture devices from scratch: make sense of the dependencies to configure a device, design the underlying database, define the api to provide information for integration with other systems, put in place a web ui to edit the database information. I used python, flask, sqlite3, ldap, redis, s3, ec2.- jump in a devops role, collaborate with a challenging sysops environment, and produce a provisioning system to automate deployment of a complex java service (osgi project involving 10 servers, mysql, wowza streaming), using rpms, ansible, and jenkins. Then refactor it all to deploy to AWS, migrating our java services and data to the cloud in a 3 month period. I've presented this work in the Opencast Summit 2015 and 2016.- understand the data flow, plan backups, design and implement a disaster recovery procedure for our media storage (then 60T). A significant constraint was that filesystem and database had to be in synch. I am happy to say that there were two occasions that the disaster recovery was performed in production, data was restored within hours (instead of days), minimizing impact for lecture production and student facing services. - grow from developing an assessment tool to taking ownership of the service: managing implementation and release of features, coordinating deployment of assessments with involved departments, attracting and retaining customers by providing excellent support and customer care for both teaching staff and studentsi am open to opportunities where i can apply my software development skills and enthusiasm for learning to promote and enrich the experience of distance education around the world.
